What the I-10 and Loop 1604 Projects Mean for Corridor Residents

Interstate 10 and Loop 1604 are the corridor's twin spines, and both have work underway. Here is the sourced status of each major project, from the Loop 1604 flyovers to the I-10 interchange turnarounds, and what the work means for the people who live along it.

The Short Answer

The corridor is being rebuilt in stages, and each stage has a source.

If you live along the corridor, the highway work is a constant companion: lane shifts, new flyovers, fresh pavement where there used to be rough asphalt. Behind that daily noise is a set of specific, documented projects with names, budgets, and stages. This post tracks five of them the way the growth index tracks all development on the corridor, with a status, a source, and a verification date for each one. No rumors, no speculation, only what an agency or verified reporting has documented.

One honest caveat up front: road work does not come with a delivery clock you can set your life by. Dates move, phases overlap, and weather and budgets intervene. The useful question is not "when will it be done" but "what is the current status, and what should I plan around." That is what this post answers, dated September 2026 and re-verified November 2026.

The Projects

Five projects, five statuses, all sourced.

Under Construction

Loop 1604 North Expansion at I-10

TxDOT's Loop 1604 North program, the segment from SH 16 to the I-10 interchange, reached roughly 90 percent completion in May 2025. All eight flyover ramps at the I-10 interchange are now open, the final ramp opening in early February 2026, and the interchange work was roughly 78 percent complete as of September 2026, with completion expected in late 2027 and the overall program continuing through 2028. For residents of Leon Springs and the communities off the interchange, this is the project that changes how the corridor meets the outer loop.

Under Construction

I-10 West Program, Loop 1604 to SH 46

TxDOT's multi-stage I-10 West effort widened the mainlanes largely through 2024 and continues with access-road and turnaround work at the interchanges residents use every day: Boerne Stage Road, Ralph Fair Road, and Fair Oaks Parkway. It is the project behind the fresh pavement and the shifting lane patterns on the drive between Leon Springs and Boerne.

Under Construction

Ralph Fair Road / Van Raub Area Reconstruction

Bexar County roadway reconstruction covering utility replacement, drainage improvements, and a new bridge, with a budget in the area of $13.25 million and work continuing into 2027. It sits on the county road network that serves the corridor's Ralph Fair Road spine, alongside communities like Balcones Creek and Fallbrook.

Approved

Adler Road and Ammann Road Transportation Projects

Transportation projects in the Boerne and Fair Oaks Ranch area with roughly $18 million in funding, partly from the City of Boerne and Kendall County, with work scheduled across 2025-2028. Ammann Road is also the corridor for the approved Post Oak development, so this work pairs with future housing.

Proposed

I-10 at Scenic Loop Road Improvements

TxDOT and the City of Boerne have studied separate turn lanes along the frontage roads and reconstruction of the I-10 bridge at Scenic Loop Road. The project remains in the proposal and study stage, which means it is documented but not yet approved or under construction. Scenic Loop Road is the corridor for The Canyons at Scenic Loop and the land west of the interstate.

What It Means

What the work actually means for life on the corridor.

For residents, the projects change three things. First, the arrival sequence at the corridor's ends: the Loop 1604 flyovers and the I-10 interchange work are reshaping how the corridor meets both the loop and downtown Boerne, and each phase shifts lanes and exits before it settles. Second, interchange access: the ongoing I-10 West access-road and turnaround work at Boerne Stage Road, Ralph Fair Road, and Fair Oaks Parkway touches the daily routes of nearly every corridor community, including the corridor's own road map. Third, timing: the corridor between the two ends will keep changing, which is normal for this stretch of Texas and worth planning around rather than waiting out.

For buyers, the honest framing is: accessibility is a feature, construction is a phase. A community near an interstate interchange gains from the access once work settles, and the resale market prices the connection, not the temporary lane shift. For sellers, the same logic runs in reverse: buyers evaluating a home near active highway work deserve an accurate description of the current status, and the growth index is the place to send them for the sourced version. Neither side should rely on a completion date as if it were a promise; both should rely on the status, the source, and the plan.

Good to Know

Road construction changes traffic patterns but does not, by itself, change school assignment or taxing jurisdictions. School assignment is verified by property address through the serving district, never from highway proximity, and tax details are confirmed through the appraisal district record for the specific property.

This post covers transportation. The growth and development index carries the same status discipline for residential projects, including Post Oak and the Esperanza build-out, with a source and verification date on every entry.

Highway project questions, answered

Are the I-10 mainlanes still under construction?

The I-10 West mainlane widening from Loop 1604 toward Boerne was largely completed through 2024, and work has continued on access roads and turnarounds at interchanges including Boerne Stage Road, Ralph Fair Road, and Fair Oaks Parkway. Projects remain under active construction, so current road conditions are confirmed with TxDOT before trips.

Is the Loop 1604 work at I-10 finished?

Not yet. All eight flyover ramps at the I-10 interchange are now open, the final ramp since February 2026, but the interchange work was roughly 78 percent complete as of September 2026, with completion expected in late 2027 and the overall Loop 1604 North program continuing through 2028. Status is verified against TxDOT and project reporting.

What is planned for Scenic Loop Road at I-10?

TxDOT and the City of Boerne have studied separate turn lanes along the frontage roads and reconstruction of the I-10 bridge at Scenic Loop Road. The project remains proposed, meaning it is under study and not yet approved or under construction.

Do these projects change school assignments or taxes?

Road projects by themselves do not redraw school boundaries or change taxing jurisdictions, though growth they enable can reshape neighborhoods over time. School assignment is always verified by property address through the serving district, and tax details are confirmed through the appraisal district record for the specific property.

Where this post's facts come from

  • Revised November 3, 2026: all five project statuses were re-verified against TxDOT and project reporting. No status changed: the Loop 1604 interchange work was roughly 78 percent complete as of September 2026 (the Texas Highway Man update of September 19, 2026), the I-10 West access-road and turnaround work continues, Ralph Fair Road work continues into 2027, the Adler/Ammann projects remain funded and scheduled, and the Scenic Loop Road study remains proposed.
  • Revised October 13, 2026: the Loop 1604 entry and FAQ were updated to reflect that all eight flyover ramps at the I-10 interchange are now open (the final ramp opened in February 2026), with the interchange work roughly 78 percent complete as of September 2026 and completion expected in late 2027, per Texas Highway Man and KSAT reporting.
